Stranger Things Quiz: 15 Questions From Hawkins to the Upside Down
From the first disappearance in 1983 to the final battle in 1987, how well do you really know the series? Rack up points, build answer streaks, and find out where you rank in the party.
Why Fans Still Love Stranger Things
When Stranger Things premiered on Netflix on July 15, 2016, few people expected a show about kids on bikes in a small Indiana town to become a global phenomenon. Created by twin brothers Matt and Ross Duffer, known as the Duffer Brothers, the series mixed science fiction, horror and coming-of-age drama with a heavy dose of 1980s nostalgia.
Over five seasons, the story followed a group of friends in Hawkins, Indiana, as they faced secret government experiments, a mysterious girl with powers and a dark parallel dimension known as the Upside Down. The final season arrived in three parts at the end of 2025, with the finale released on New Year’s Eve in the Americas.
The story didn’t fully end there. The franchise has expanded into an award-winning stage play and an animated series, giving fans even more to talk about and plenty to be quizzed on.
Spoiler note: This quiz covers all five seasons, including the final one. If you haven’t finished the series, some questions and explanations reveal plot details. This is an independent fan quiz and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Netflix.

Season-by-Season Time Machine
One of the show’s clever touches is that each season jumps forward in time, so the characters grow up alongside the decade. Here is when each season takes place in the story:
Will Byers vanishes, and a mysterious girl named Eleven appears.
A Halloween-season story as Will struggles with visions of the Upside Down.
Starcourt Mall, summer jobs and a secret Soviet lab.
Vecna emerges, with storylines in Hawkins, California and Russia.
The final showdown, released in three parts in late 2025.
💡 The real-world gaps between seasons were often longer than the in-story jumps. That’s why the young cast visibly grew up between seasons, especially during the nearly three-year wait between Seasons 3 and 4.
The Song That Broke Chart Records
Stranger Things has always used 1980s music to set its mood, but nothing compared to the impact of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill.” Originally released in 1985 as the lead single from her album Hounds of Love, it peaked at No. 3 in the UK at the time. After Season 4 used it as Max’s lifeline in 2022, a new generation discovered it, and it finally reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart.
According to Guinness World Records, the comeback set three UK chart records:
Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” also enjoyed a big surge in streams after Eddie’s Upside Down guitar solo. It’s a good example of how a TV show can introduce decades-old music to new listeners.
Beyond the Series: Stage and Animation
🎭 Stranger Things: The First Shadow
A stage prequel set in Hawkins in 1959, 24 years before Season 1, focusing on the Creel family and a teenage Henry Creel. It opened at London’s Phoenix Theatre in November 2023 and won the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment or Comedy Play. The Broadway production opened at the Marquis Theatre on April 22, 2025, earned four Tony Awards for its design and effects, and has announced a final performance on January 3, 2027.
🎨 Stranger Things: Tales From ’85
The franchise’s first animated series premiered globally on Netflix on April 23, 2026. Set in winter 1985, between Seasons 2 and 3, it is produced by Flying Bark Productions, with Eric Robles as showrunner and the Duffer Brothers as executive producers.
